Why Uno Numero Uno?
A barber. a funeral director. and a printer walk into a… hold on. let me backup. In 1971. the now widely popular card game. Uno. was developed by Merle Robbins. a barbershop owner from Reading. Ohio. He mortgaged his home to raise $8.000 to make 5.000 copies of his family’s favorite game. He eventually sold the rights to his game to a group of friends. headed by funeral parlor owner Robert Tezak for $50.000 and a royalty of 10 cents per game. Robert later sold it to Larry Saltzman of Saltzman Printers. who eventually sold it to the Mattel family of companies in 1992.
