Why They’re Grrreat?
The Kellogg Company was founded by Will Keith (W.K.) Kellogg in 1906 in Battle Creek. Michigan—though he didn’t start out with big plans to conquer breakfast. Before that. W.K. worked at the Battle Creek Sanitarium. a health resort run by his brother. Dr. John Harvey Kellogg. where they preached a strict regimen of healthy eating. exercise. and hygiene. In 1894. the brothers accidentally left some wheat sitting around too long. and voilà. it turned into flakes—leading to the creation of the first cornflakes. which were initially just for the sanitarium’s patients. Now. the Kellogg brothers were a bit… well. controversial. with some quirky (and not-so-great) personal beliefs and actions. But hey. when it comes to their flakes? They’re grrreat!
