Why Engi-Nora?
Nora Blatch was a total boss in both civil engineering and the women’s suffrage movement. In 1905. she graduated from Cornell as the only woman in her class with a civil engineering degree—basically the OG girl power moment. Then. in 1906. she became the first woman to join the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). probably making a bunch of dudes feel really uncomfortable. Fast forward to 1916. the ASCE decided she was too old for Junior Membership. and kicked her out. Nora tried to sue them. but no luck. Fast forward again to 2015. nearly a century later. when ASCE was like. Oops. we made a mistake! and named her a Fellow posthumously. Better late than never. right? Classic ASCE.
